Our Methods

We like to think of strategy as the ability to take a step back and view an entire forest, locate the path through the woods and be able to catalog the trees along the path prior to setting out for a hike. Executing business plans require an understanding of the ecosystem in which you operate. Our experience allows us to bring together lessons from myriad fields that we...

Our Experience

The members of our team have over 100 years of combined experience working in the fields of public health, emergency response, health care, education, law, software development, graphic design, data analysis and marketing. We are multi-disciplinary individuals; most of us have extensive experience in several of the aforementioned fields. Together, our field experience spans dozens of countries on every continent (well, except Antarctica). Members of our team live in the United States, Switzerland and Brazil. We worked during the past year in Brazil, Haiti, Denmark, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, South Africa, China, Vietnam and the United States. Our expansive perspective allows us to bring new issues into focus rapidly, while we seek cross-disciplinary solutions to challenging problems. Our clients’ privacy is important to us, which is why all of our client work is done confidentially. We believe that it is the client’s right to choose when and where to advertise...

For instance, one of the best examples of new technology in the field of emergency response is the open source Ushahidi platform. The concept...

Playing Data Catch-Up

Each type of emergency has its own profile. Floods cause massive property damage and displace large numbers of people. Tsunamis leave few survivors or injured victims but an enormous amount of property and ecological damage. Earthquakes tend to result in both a large number of deaths and a large number of orthopedic injuries. It is our instinct, and I believe a correct one, to focus on locating and assisting injured survivors in the immediate aftermath of an emergency. The 2010 Haitian...
